MOGADISHU, SOMALIA (Worthy News)-- Islamists suspected to be al-Shabaab militants who had kidnapped a Christian mother of two in Somalia have now threatened her husband.

On Aug. 5, three masked men abducted Shamsa Hussein outside her home in Bulo Marer after determining she was secretly a Christian, Mohamed Osman, her husband, told Morning Star News.

Despite her abduction, Hussein managed to send Osman a text message telling him to leave the area.

"Please leave immediately because of what we believe," she texted. "They have abused me sexually saying I am an infidel."

Osman said he has received anonymous, threatening text messages from the kidnappers, including one reading: "Your wife has told us all about your Christian involvement and soon we shall come for you too."

Osman and his daughters, ages 3 and 5, have since fled; Osman said he hasn't heard from his wife since her August text message.

A resident of Bulo Marer confirmed that Hussein was abducted, but local residents knew little else.

"What little we knew about Osman's family was that they were not very committed to attending the mosque during Ramadan time," he said.

Somalis are considered to be Muslims from birth and any apostasy from Islam is punishable by death.

Al-Shabaab reportedly has a base in Bulo Marer; the group has vowed to rid Somalia of Christians, even those who meet in secret.
