Israel's Messianic Jews Face Orthodox "Persecution"

ARAD, ISRAEL (Worthy News)-- Representatives of a Messianic Jewish community in the southern Israeli town of Arad said Monday, March 21, they face "increased persecution" by ultra-Orthodox Jews who accuse the believers of missionary activities and want them to leave Israel.

"Last week they were two times at my house with megaphones," said a Christian involved in one of four Messianic congregations here. He spoke to Worthy News on condition of anonymity because of security concerns.

He said the religious war in this town of 25,000 residents also impacts other members of his Messianic congregation.

Among those targeted is widow Polly Sigulim, a Jewish mother of three Israeli soldiers. Last week, a crowd of some 200 Orthodox Jews gathered in front of her home shouting that she and other Messianic Jews should "leave Arad and Israel, a Jewish state."

"We hope that after we will be here and demonstrate and really speak from the heart, we won't need to return again for demonstrations because the Messianic Jews, as they call themselves, will be erased from Arad," demonstrator Benny Vulcan was heard saying.

In 2008, the Supreme Court of Israel ruled however that Messianic Jews have the same rights regarding automatic citizenship as Jews who do not believe in Jesus as the Messiah.

The case was brought by 12 applicants who had been denied Israeli citizenship mainly because they were Jewish believers in Jesus. Most of them reportedly received letters saying they would not receive citizenship because they "commit missionary activity."

Yet, despite the ruling, hard-line anti-missionary group Chasidei Gur have accussed the roughly 30 Messianic Jewish families in Arad of "being missionaries wanting to baptize as many Jews as possible."

Another ultra-Orthodox organization, Yad L'achim, has distributed footage in recent weeks of what it said were Messianic Jews being baptized.

Messianic Pastor Yakim Figueras made clear that his congregation does not want to force Jewish people to believe in Jesus, also known in Hebrew as Yeshua. However, he said "Everyone who believes in Yeshua truly, according to the New Covenant, believes that this is the answer for everyone."

The demonstrations against the Messianic community are linked to concerns among Orthodox Jewish leaders about the growing number of Israelis in Arad region who view Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God. Messianic Jews say Jesus came to the world to offer salvation and eternal life to everyone who believes in Him.

Mainstream Christian groups generally view Messianic Jews also as believers and part of the 'Body of Christ', a Biblical term used to describe the worldwide Church of believers.

As noisy protests continue in front her home, Sigulim told reporters that she is not against Jewish traditions. "I do believe in the Torah, the prophets and also the New Covenant," she added.

A neighbor expressed concerns about her situation. "In Europe they shouted 'Jews out', here they shout 'Messianics out'."

  1. I guess orthodox Jews have forgotten their own history and how they have named many to be their Messiah only to bring swift destruction on themselves and their own people. The Bar Kokhba revolt (132–136 CE;) A prime example of how they rejected Yeshua and set up their own Messiah and how it failed miserably.

As we know time to be cyclical and the scriptures teach in Ecclesiastes that we will come to this part of the ring (cycle) of time again. These things will be repeated only the names and landscape will look a bit different.

Ecc 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

We as Christians support Israel more than we ever have. One day the orthodox will once again, in their zeal, claim another to be their messiah and we will see a repeat pattern just like Ecclesiastes teaches. So sad!

We MUST pray for the peace of Jerusalem and the salvation of my people Israel. Shalom

    • We would like to make clear to all for the purpose of enlightening some of the misinterpretations made by many literal gentile scholars in the God master plan of the Holy bible and one of these misinterpretation concerns the commissionship plan of God, not knowing that it is not a universal ministry but was only covenanted to all chosen Israelites (both Jews & Israelites) the authority to minister the WORD or preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to disperse countrymen, Mt. 1:21 & Mt. 15:24 for the duration of the 2000 years. Acts 10:34-43; these preachers are the “remnant of Israel chosen by Grace” as testified in Rom. 11:1-7 and Rom. 9:3-7. These are the only “Baptized” disciples (Mt. 28:19) by Holy Spirit. And the complete number of these chosen disciples is found in Rev. 7:1-8 & 14:1-5, which was prophesied in Exo. 19:6, as the Kingdom of Priesthood. Now, to update your knowledge regarding the TRUTH of the God universal religion plan of the Holy Bible, we all knew that the first legal covenant religion of God was the Edenic covenant of God to Adam unto his righteous seed. And, the last legal religion of Old Testament was Judaism. Then followed by the N.T., the Messianic kingdom of priesthood, or Days of the Lord Judgment as the only legal religion by Jesus Christ Holy Spirit, which is also the Promised Covenant of God to Jacob Kingship Salvation (Lk 1:33), which ended last 1993. And after this, comes the 2nd Advent, Night Covenant, the Hour Judgment of God or Eternal Age (Mk. 10:30) and according to Moises was “Hour of Redemption”, wherein the Father (Adam) reign, who have the sole authority to reveal the “ Days and Hour ” (in God count) as judgment covenant Plan of God for one salvation (Mt. 24:36 & Jer. 33:20-22). Thus, the prophesy was fulfilled and we are proclaiming the Eternal Age or Night Covenant or Hour Judgment to all unto the end. And we also proclaim that the fulfilled 2nd Advent of the Son of Man is also the Adam & Enoch prophesied return for the salvation covenant of all literal gentile (?).

  2. Messianic Jews need to purify the false pagan rooted beliefs falsely taught by the mainstream Christian church. Especially the non biblical false doctrine of the trinity. No where in the bible does it say that god is triune. 3 gods in one or 1 god manifest in three. Yeshua said that his father was greater than he. It's sad that messianic Jews have accepted this false teaching rooted on paganism and mandated by the roman Constantine at the council of nicea. the doctrine of the trinity puts off so many orthodox Jews and Muslims from accepting yeshua and until this falsehood is rectified then many will not accept this falsified teaching.
