syriaDAMASCUS, SYRIA (Worthy News)-- Using the Twitter social networking site, Lebanon's March 14 General Secretariat Coordinator warned Christians that backing President Bashar al-Assad would backfire on their own communities, according to NOW news.

"The involvement of some groups and Christian churches in defending the Syrian regime, under the pretext that the alternative would be more threatening to them, will only bring disasters to the Christians," tweeted Fares Soueid.

Although his warning didn't define what those disasters would entail, Soueid also decried the addition of a Christian minister to the Assad regime's delegation at the Geneva II peace talks.

"It is unfortunate that some churches are mitigating al-Assad's cruelty," he tweeted. "We expect the oriental churches to come up with a clear condemnation of such acts."

March 14 is a coalition of political parties in Lebanon that was named after the anti-Syrian rally on that date in 2005 when more than one million Lebanese demanded the withdrawal of Syrian troops and an end to Syrian meddling in Lebanese affairs.

The coalition comprises a broad spectrum of political movements and religions to include Sunni, Christian, Druze and some Shia.
